Some Properties of Neural Representations

چکیده

When a stimulus reaches our sensory system, it evokes a perceptual schema. This schema, subsequently, produces a central neiral representation of the stimulus. I want to investigate what properties these neural representations must have to support complex cognitive processes. To do this, I present a description of neural networks that makes it possible to bridge the gap between the neuronal and the conceptual level of description. Using this high level description , I state a hypothesis about neural representations that I have called the continuity hypothesis. It makes it possible to use knowledge of processes at the conceptual level at the neuronal level. Some properties of the representation of a stimulus are presented and it is shown that the central representation can be the result either of a categorisation or an associative process. Two minimal conditions on categorisation are suggested. These conditions are used to construct a new type of competitive learning that support representations that cohere with these conditions. Finally, I discuss the representation of relations between stimuli. It is suggested that the temporal domain is necessary to represent arbitrary relations among stimuli.

The Representations and Positive Type Functions of Some Homogenous Spaces

‎For a homogeneous spaces ‎$‎G/H‎$‎, we show that the convolution on $L^1(G/H)$ is the same as convolution on $L^1(K)$, where $G$ is semidirect product of a closed subgroup $H$ and a normal subgroup $K $ of ‎$‎G‎$‎. ‎Also we prove that there exists a one to one correspondence between nondegenerat $ast$-representations of $L^1(G/H)$ and representations of ...

Schemata, Learning and Conceptual Landscapes

How are concepts represented? This is a question that must be asked and at least partially answered by any theory of cognition. Within cognitive liguistics one argues that the nature of the cognitive representations determines the structure of language (e. g. Lakoff 1987). The usual approach is to try to reveal the underlying representations by an extensive analysis of human language. I will tr...

Classification and properties of acyclic discrete phase-type distributions based on geometric and shifted geometric distributions

Acyclic phase-type distributions form a versatile model, serving as approximations to many probability distributions in various circumstances. They exhibit special properties and characteristics that usually make their applications attractive. Compared to acyclic continuous phase-type (ACPH) distributions, acyclic discrete phase-type (ADPH) distributions and their subclasses (ADPH family) have ...

Modelling of some soil physical quality indicators using hybrid algorithm principal component analysis - artificial neural network

One of the important issues in the analysis of soils is to evaluate their features. In estimation of the hardly available properties, it seems the using of Data mining is appropriate. Therefore, the modelling of some soil quality indicators, using some of the early features of soil which have been proved by some researchers, have been considered. For this purpose, 140 disturbed and 140 undistur...
